Wawanesa Insurance Broker – Quebec

About Wawanesa Insurance Broker

The promise of expanded business called for the opening of a branch office in Montréal in 1931 at 465 St-John Street. Located in tiny premises with a staff of two, things didn’t go well initially. However, service underwent a dramatic change in 1934 with the appointment of John Fisher as branch manager. In a series of dynamic moves, Fisher increased business to the point that the premium income rose from $95,000 in 1936 to $1,500,000 in 1948, and almost $3,000,000 in 1956.

A survey shows that The Wawanesa is the most common response given by people asked to identify an auto insurer.

Language and culture, in addition to its unique marketing approach, set the Québec branch apart bringing the employees to say “Wawanesa has always respected our identity as francophones”. It is this kind of regional sensitivity that staff in every branch say they appreciate about Wawanesa.

The main office at the junction of Décarie Boulevard and Metropolitan Expressway was built in 1953. After 45 years the building was replaced in 1999 by an ultra modern structure that will most likely become one of the landmarks of Montréal. What a nice way to start the third millennium.

Today, as in the beginning, Wawanesa people regard “earning the trust of policyholders” as the true measure of the continuing success of the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company.
